Tokenat: A Visual Reward System for Children
Tokenat is an Android app developed by Sharifa Yateem that aims to motivate children to learn and complete tasks using a visual reward system. It is specifically designed for children with special needs, but it is suitable for children of all ages and abilities. The app is based on a behavior modification reinforcement system called Token Economy, which involves rewarding a child with symbols or “tokens” for performing a target behavior. Once the child collects all the tokens that have been pre-determined, the child can earn their chosen reward. Tokenat provides the children with visual information about when they can earn their reward.
The app includes a gallery of token and reward images, token images showing the progress towards earning the reward, the ability to remove a token from the token images, an optional sound effect which plays when the child earns a token, and a winning page once the child collects all tokens required. Additionally, Tokenat offers an optional losing sound when tokens are removed. The key features of the app include a gallery of token and reward images, a gallery of sounds when a token is given or removed, the ability to take photos within the app, and an option to import favorite token and reward images from the camera roll. The settings can be translated to Arabic language, and tokens start from the right side when the app is switched to the Arabic version.
